Redditch Eclipse Photograph Competition
On 12 August 2026 the Moon took a bite out of the Sun in a partial solar eclipse seen across the UK. To celebrate, we invited members and the wider community to share their photographs of the eclipse.

The competition
Who can enter
Everyone: members and non-members, of any age and any experience level. One entry per photographer.
The photo
Any photograph of the 12 August 2026 partial solar eclipse that you took yourself, whether with a phone, a camera or a telescope setup. Light editing and composites are welcome; please tell us how the shot was taken.
Judging
Entries are judged by the RAS committee on originality, technical quality and composition. The winner will be announced at our public outreach evening, Discover the Night Sky, at Meadow Farm on 6 October 2026, and prizes will be presented at our Christmas meeting on Tuesday 1 December 2026.
Prizes
- Best overall photograph: the winning image turned into a medium-sized, professionally printed canvas by Flyers By Night, for the photographer to keep.
- Best smartphone photograph: a 2027 society calendar.
- Both winning images will be featured in the RAS 2027 calendar.
How to enter
Email your photograph to redditchastro@gmail.com with:
- your name, as you would like it credited;
- where the photo was taken, and what you used (phone, camera, lens or telescope and settings, if you know them);
- whether it was taken on a smartphone;
- the statement: "I took this photograph myself and agree it may be shown in the RAS gallery and social media."
