Privacy notice
How Redditch Astronomical Society handles your information.
This notice has been rewritten for the new website and must be reviewed and approved by the RAS committee before launch. The date below should be updated when it is approved.

Who we are
Redditch Astronomical Society ("RAS", "we") is a volunteer-run amateur astronomy society. We do not sell, rent or trade email lists or anyone's contact details.
If you have any questions about this notice or your information, email redditchastro@gmail.com or speak to the society secretary at a meeting.
Visiting our website
You can browse this website without telling us anything about yourself. The site is a set of static pages: it has no user accounts, no contact forms and no comments, and it does not collect personal information from you.
Hosting (Cloudflare)
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and our domain name is managed through Cloudflare DNS. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Cloudflare handles this data under its own privacy policy.
GitHub
The website's source files are stored on GitHub and published to Cloudflare from there. GitHub is not involved when you visit the site and does not receive information about visitors.
Analytics
We do not currently use any analytics or visitor-tracking service on this website.
Cookies
Our website does not set cookies. Cloudflare may occasionally set a strictly necessary security cookie to protect the site from automated abuse; this does not track you across other websites.
Fonts and other third parties
The website loads no external fonts, advertising or social media widgets. All of its pages, styles and scripts are served from our own site.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to other websites, such as Facebook, Eventbrite, maps and astronomy resources. When you follow a link you leave our site, and that website's own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external sites.
Add to calendar
The "Download calendar file" option creates the file in your own browser; nothing is sent to us. The "Add to Google Calendar" option opens Google Calendar with the event details, and Google's privacy policy then applies.
Booking events through Eventbrite
Some events, such as free public events, are booked through Eventbrite. When you book, Eventbrite collects the details you enter and shares your name and email address with us as the organiser so that we can manage attendance and contact you about the event. Eventbrite processes your information under its own privacy policy. We only use booking details for the event you booked.
Emailing us
If you email the society, we use your email address and message to reply to you. Our email is provided by Google (Gmail), so messages are stored in that account. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for society business.
Competition entries
If you enter a society competition by email or Facebook, we use your name and entry to judge the competition and contact you. If you agreed when entering, your photograph and name may be shown in the RAS gallery, on social media and in the society calendar.
Membership and meeting records
When you join the society, we record the information needed to manage your membership. Please don't give us information you don't want us to hold: other than a name we can call you by, nothing else is required.
For fire safety, we are required to record the name of everyone attending each meeting. These records are kept on paper in a book held securely by the secretary. They are not connected to this website.
You can ask for your details to be removed from the membership book by contacting the secretary. Names in the fire safety record for past meetings may need to be kept for safety reasons.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct or delete it. To make a request, email redditchastro@gmail.com or speak to the secretary.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if the way we handle information changes, for example if we start using website analytics.
