What's On - 2020 Note: COVID-19 situation being monitored

Whilst in Lock Down, why not check out some suggested resources for Observing at Home

We are a group of Amateur Astronomers in the Redditch and Bromsgrove area aiming to provide a friendly community for like minded enthusiasts.

We currently meet on the first Monday of each month (except August) in the Cantebury Suite of St Augustines RC school.

Poetry Slam entry by June Smith

Man looked up at specks of light –
Planets dotted in the skies above

Their titles pay homage to deities –
Our morning star, Venus – the Goddess of love

Save for our own world – our land
Earth – named after the soil upon which we stand

Night’s darkness harbours secrets – provoking fear in ancient times.
Comets – eclipses, both viewed as portents - signs

Knowledge is power – has always been
Technology quashing myths and terrors
Apollo 11 conquered the Moon
NASA now looking to Mars – We pray for no errors

Some ask “What’s the point – such a cost
Why leave Earth and risk loss?”

Some answer “Because we can -
Because we are man”.
